Mouthguards
Accidents can happen at any time on the field. A properly fitted Mouthguard can prevent broken teeth as well as injuries to the lips, tongue, face or jaw.
Anyone who participates in a sport that carries a significant risk of injury should wear a custom fitted Mouthguard. This includes a wide range of sports like football, hockey, basketball, baseball, gymnastics and volleyball. A properly fitted Mouthguard is especially important for people who wear braces or have fixed bridge work.
Over the counter mouthguards do not fit as well nor do they provide the anticipated and necessary protection to help prevent dental facial injuries. The only sports mouthguard that should be worn is that made from a model of the mouth. Patients have individual requirements for fit, comfort, level of competition and compliance. Our professionally designed custom made Mouthguards satisfy these requirements.
At Distinctive Dental Care we provide state of the art custom made athletic mouthguards.
Night-guards
Over 30% of the population damage their teeth at night from Grinding. Night-guards will prevent further damage to teeth and help to restore your bite. These small comfortable appliances are worn in the mouth similar to an Orthodontic retainer or sports mouthguard.
Bruxism is the technical term for clenching and grinding of teeth. People who suffer from Bruxism unintentionally bite down too hard at inappropriate times, such as while they are sleeping. Grinding wears down and may fracture teeth, and may lead to gum and jaw problems. Many people are unaware that they have Bruxism.
If you wake up with any of the following symptoms you may be suffering from Bruxism:
- dull headaches
- facial pain
- tooth ache
- a sore jaw
- painful or loose teeth
Bruxism may be caused by stress, an unconscious attempt to smooth out a poor bite, sleep disorders or teeth that are missing or crooked.
